27 Years ago, Concert of the Group U2 was held in Sarajevo

26 years ago, the Irish band U2 held an anthology concert in Sarajevo that was attended by 45,000 people.

U2 was one of the first bands to hold a concert in war-torn Sarajevo. Irish rockers led by Paul David Hewson, the popular Bono, had a strong connection with Sarajevo even during the war. On the “Zoo TV” tour in 1993, U2 organized satellite links through which the people of Sarajevo reported live during the concerts.

Then Bono promised that one day he would come and play in Sarajevo. That day happened four years later as part of the “PopMart” tour, and with the help of UN ambassadors and peacekeeping troops.

This concert will be remembered for the extravagant stage that was one of the trademarks of the tour, and the group played their usual repertoire in front of 45,000 people. Although the members of U2 proposed to hold a smaller charity concert in Sarajevo, a big concert took place, like any other within the “PopMart” tour.

The documentary “Kiss The Future” was filmed about the mentioned concert, which opened the 29th Sarajevo Film Festival, and the famous Irish musician was a guest of the festival. U2 guitarist David Howell Evans, better known as The Edge, arrived in Sarajevo with Bono last August.

Last year, Sniper Alley published never-before-seen photos from the concert captured by Massimo Sciacca, Klix.ba writes.
