The Deputy Director for Infrastructure of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Lin O’Grady and the Director of KJKP ‘’Vodovod I Kanalizacija’’ (Water and Sewage) Muamera Srna signed in Sarajevo a Subsidiary Loan Agreement in relation to water supply and wastewater projects.

The signatories to the agreement stressed its importance in terms of investment in water and sewage systems, and the supply of water. They expect that all other activities will accelerate under this contract and that work will begin at the end of summer.

The Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Suad Zeljković and the Sarajevo Canton Minister of Physical Planning and Environment Zlatko Petrović also attended the signing.

Minister Petrović said that there is hope other formal procedures will be completed within the next month and a half, and that works to reduce water losses will begin at the end of summer. Procedures need to be put in place in order to improve the water supply system in Sarajevo Canton.

‘’I hope that in the next 5-6 years losses in the water supply in Sarajevo Canton will be reduced to the parameters allowed by European standards, and that citizens will have proper water supply with quality water’’, said Petrović.

According to him, the total amount of credit loans is 30 million euros and will be spent in three years.

The first tranche is 10 million euros, which will be used for the completion of all projects.

For 2014-2015 10 million euros will be used for work on water supply, to improve the supply of power, particularly in Bačevo, improving conditions for safe and sanitary maintenance of water treatment, and a part of the funds would be allocated for water meters.
