A powerful earthquake was felt across Northern California today, and US authorities have issued a tsunami warning.
The magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck at 10:44 a.m. local time west of Ferndale, a small town in coastal Humboldt County, near the Oregon border, the United States Geological Survey said.
The quake was felt as far south as San Francisco, and smaller aftershocks followed.
The USGS said the quake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The tsunami warning applies to much of the Pacific coast north of San Francisco.
Based on preliminary parameters of the earthquake, dangerous tsunamis are possible for coasts located 300 kilometers from the epicenter of the earthquake, US authorities announced.
