The 79th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), which is considered one of the largest diplomatic events in the world and which brings together the leaders of the member states, will begin in New York tomorrow.

The General Assembly, which gathers the heads of state and government of the member states in the New UN headquarters every year, will be in session from September 24 to 30.

Cameroonian Philemon Yong will chair the discussions, which will be opened by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

It is expected that 133 heads of state and government, three vice presidents, 80 vice presidents of governments and 45 ministers from member countries will attend the UN General Assembly.

– Traditional order –

Brazil delivers the first speech after the President of the UN General Assembly, a tradition that has been held since 1955. After Brazil, the host USA takes the floor.

Representing the Republic of Turkey at the UN General Assembly, the country’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will speak third.

It is expected that Erdogan, who is addressing the UN General Assembly for the 14th time, will pay special attention to the situation in Gaza in his speech.

President Erdogan is expected to ask member states to stand up to Israeli attacks.

– Crises stretching from Gaza to Haiti –

The gathering of the leaders of the UN countries is being held this year again in the shadow of growing crises, conflicts and wars around the world.

That is why it is expected that the events in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan and Haiti will be on the agenda of the discussions.

It is also to be expected that the focus will be on the situation in Gaza, which the UN has already defined as “hell on earth”. A call for a ceasefire, condemnation of Israeli violations of international law, compliance with UN resolutions and a call for the delivery of humanitarian aid are among what is expected of a leader.

It is an important topic in the context of the risk of a regional war in the Middle East, especially after the latest Israeli attacks and explosions of wireless devices in Lebanon.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to deliver his speech on the morning of September 26, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to speak in the afternoon on the same day.

– Main topic –

The main theme of this year’s discussions of the UN General Assembly is “Leaving no one behind: Peace, sustainable development and human dignity”.

“Today’s global order is dysfunctional for some, essentially dysfunctional for no one,” said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recently.

For this reason, it is expected that the reform of the UN Security Council and the international financial structure will be on the leaders’ agenda.

In addition to the high-level week, the Future Summit will be held to discuss climate change in the world.

Leaders are also expected to consult on issues as diverse as the Sustainable Development Goals, antimicrobial resistance and nuclear disarmament, AA writes.
