In the statement of BH MAC was noted that in the period from 1996 until today, a total of 3140 square kilometers were cleaned through the operation of the non-technical reconnaissance. The current size of the suspected endangered area in BiH is 1,061.32 square kilometers or 2.1 %.
There are still about 75,000 – 80,000 mines left in BiH.
The problem of mines is present in 129 municipalities/cities or 1,398 endangered locations. Presence of mines directly affects the safety of around 545,603 people, or 15 % of the total population of BiH.
The ten most endangered municipalities when it comes to mines in BiH are: Doboj, Teslic, Maglaj, Usora, Zavidovici, Gornji Vakuf, Sanski Most, Velika Kladusa, Travnik and Ilijas.
A total of, 1,756 people suffered from mines in the post-war period, of which 613 people were killed. Of these, 185 victims were women (11 %), and 250 victims were children (14 %).
