After a long time, the approach of the member states of the Council for Peace Implementation Council (PIC) changed in relation to the political situation in BiH. Joint statement on the revision of the judgment on the lawsuit of BiH against Serbia united Russia, the United States and member states of the European Union, while only Turkey had a different opinion.
The Russian Ambassador to our country mainly distanced fFrom the political views of the PIC in BiH in the past. Thus, Russia differed with the opinion on the unconstitutional referendum in the RS in the part in which the PIC invites on full respect of the relevant decisions of the Constitutional Court on the Law on Holidays of the RS.
The meeting of the PIC after a long time united the ambassadors of France, Italy, Japan, Canada, Germany, Russia, the United States, Great Britain and the European Union.
All of them expressed their concern over the serious political situation that came as a result of the initiative to submit a request for revision of the judgment of the International Court of Justice in 2007 on the lawsuit of BiH against Serbia and Montenegro for genocide.
The ambassadors called on political leaders to refrain from unilateral moves and return to the principles of compromise, dialogue and consensus in decision-making, as well as respect for BH Constitution, institutions and the rule of law.
Identical positions of ambassadors of Russia and the West on the revision of the judgment indicate that Bakir Izetbegovic lost the support of the West on this issue due to the fact that the Western countries agreed with Russia that was always more in favor of Serbian political factor in BiH.
Previously, Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Jonathan Moore called BH authorities not to start the revision of the judgment, noting that he has information that the mandate of Sakib Softic expired in 2007. Identical statements came from politicians from the RS who, same as Moore, warned on the political consequences after starting the revision.
In yesterday’s joint statement by ambassadors of PIC, the third paragraph is particularly interesting, which states: “Ambassadors of PIC are aware of suffering caused by the genocide and other crimes, as well as the rights of victims and survivors, and again noted the need to invest further efforts towards reconciliation and good relations in the country and the region.”
By joining this statement, Russia, which blocked the resolution on Srebrenica to the UN Security Council in 2015 because they did not want to accept the word genocide, recognized the genocide in BiH.
