Mayor of Sarajevo Abdulah Skaka and his associates met with members of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of BiH, headed by its Chairman Goran Milojevic.
They met in relation to the launch of the inclusion of Sarajevo, as a city unit, on the World Heritage List of UNESCO.
The initiative was officially launched in this way, and the process was opened during which will be submitted credible request to this international organization.
During the meeting, Mayor Skaka informed the members of the Commission with the decision to immediately form a working group within the City Administration, which will be tasked to establish a clear road for meeting all the necessary preconditions and intensive cooperation with the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of BiH and the State Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO.
“The city on Miljacka River exceeded the borders of the state a long time ago, it became a real regional center and European partner. Its culture, history, and symbolism represent an inseparable part of the European spirit and the total civilization value that unites the East and the West. Therefore, I am sure that the process that was started will be ended successfully, and it will give Sarajevo the place it deserves,” noted Mayor Skaka.
Sarajevo – the unique symbol of universal multiculturalism – the permanent open city has been on the list of World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO since September 1, 1997.
