Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, spoke with the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, and Deputy Minister Josip Brkić also attended the meeting.
The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the reform process on BiH’s Euro-Atlantic path, with special reference to the candidate status of our country for EU membership.
High Representative Schmidt congratulated Minister Konaković on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs and welcomed the quick formation of the new Council of Ministers. He said that it is time for positive changes to take place in BiH because the citizens expect it. He added that BiH, after obtaining candidate status, should now take “step by step” on its European path, stressing the readiness of the OHR to provide support, expertise and constructive exchange of opinions to that end.
Minister Konaković pointed out that European integration, cooperation with NATO and regional cooperation are the foreign policy priorities of BiH.
He emphasized that we are aware of our obligations after obtaining candidate status, and expressed determination to implement the necessary reforms on the way to full membership in the EU.
