A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck near Susitna, Alaska, on Thursday, according to an initial report from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake struck at 17:11 GMT at a depth of 69.4 kilometers and about 12 kilometers northwest of Susitna, which is located near Anchorage, the most populous city in the U.S. state.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage after the event, and no immediate tsunami warning was issued.

The largest earthquake in Alaska was recorded on March 27, 1964, when a magnitude 9.2 earthquake struck the Prince William Sound region. The earthquake and the tsunami that followed killed 131 people.
