It has been declared the happiest city in the world according to the Happy City Index 2024, which took factors like mobility, green spaces, and education into account. With its scenic landscapes and charming cobblestone streets, it’s easy to see why.
Among the attractions is the picturesque Latin Quarter, filled with shops offering handmade goods, numerous bars, restaurants, and beautiful houses.
The city boasts a rich artistic scene, including the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, which features five galleries, an entire floor dedicated to installation art, and breathtaking views from the rooftop.
Visitors also praise Den Gamle By in the city’s Botanical Garden, an open-air museum that recreates historical Danish life.
Aarhus Cathedral, a Romanesque-style cathedral and the tallest church in the country is also worth a visit.
One tourist who visited it in 2023 said the centuries-old building was “beautiful both inside and out.”
“There is so much to see inside; I could have spent hours there – it’s full of intricate details,” they said, adding, “The view from the top was amazing!”
Despite its obvious charms and the fact that Aarhus is Denmark’s second-largest city, it is much less well-known than the capital, Copenhagen.
As a result, visitors say there are far fewer tourists here, making it an ideal place for a relaxing getaway.
