A representative of a Russian organization that is under sanctions from the European Union (EU) for financing the war in Ukraine paid tribute to soldiers from Russia in Visegrad on Sunday, and the Mayor of the Municipality organized a reception for him.
In Visegrad, on Sunday, at the cemetery where Russian volunteers who died during the last war were buried, a gathering of the Descendants of the veterans of the Republika Srpska (RS)and the All-Russian People’s Front (ONF), a political organization launched by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and sanctioned by the EU since February 2023 due to the financing of pro-Russian forces in eastern Ukraine, was held. Five members of this organization are also on the EU sanctions list.
On the website of the Municipality, it was announced that representatives of the Front headed by Aleksey Alekhine visited Visegrad as part of an event in which the Moscow “Flame of Remembrance”, a symbol of fallen Russian soldiers from World War II to the last wars, is transmitted to 13 countries of the world.
The President of the Association of Veterans of the RS, Zoran Miljanovic, said that he was honored that “the All-Russian People’s Front chose them to be the keepers of the eternal fire in the RS.”
Mladen Djurevic, the head of the Municipality of Visegrad, met with Alekhine and said that they “paid tribute to Russian volunteers, but also to all Serbian fighters who gave their lives for the freedom of the Serbian people”.
The Front is a political organization or coalition led by Putin’s United Russia party, whose members include several other parties in the Russian Duma and several non-governmental organizations.
Dusko Vukotic, former president and member of the Association of Veterans of RS, says that Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is not a member of the EU, nor are there any obstacles to cooperation with non-governmental organizations such as the All-Russian People’s Front in domestic laws and institutions.
“As for the EU sanctions against the ONF, I would not comment on that, but I will tell you that many NATO members, together with Russian organizations, organize joint events and commemorations of the fight against fascism around the world. We will always be happy to respond to such events. We are happy that such a non-governmental organization recognized us as someone who inherits the fight against fascism,“ noted Vukotic, Detektor reports.
