A single Mother needs to pay 5.000 BAM so that Children with Developmental Disabilities can attend Kindergarten

A woman from Sarajevo has been fighting hard for her two children with developmental disabilities for more than a year. In an interview, her lawyer explained that the cantonal authorities do not allow children to exercise constitutionally and legally guaranteed rights.

Lawyer Sabina Hota Catovic explained this case after the “Istraga” portal published a document from the Attorney General’s Office of Canton Sarajevo (CS) submitted to the Municipal Court in Sarajevo, in which they stated that enrolling two children in kindergarten “will damage the reputation of the Ministry of Education of CS” and that it will “encourage other parents to seek enrollment”.

In addition, the document pointed out that the Office of the Attorney General asked the Court that the single mother insure 5,000 BAM for “damage that could occur” to the Ministry of Education of the CS if the children are enrolled.

Commenting on this request of the Office of the Attorney General, Hota Catovic noted that it is a legal action that can be requested, but that in this case, it is completely unacceptable.

“They received confirmation from the school institutions that their schooling must be postponed for the next year. So they are one year late with classes. They stayed at home, and their peers are in kindergarten or school,” she pointed out.

She pointed out that the Ministry has been aware of this problem for more than a year. According to her, her mother informed them before the beginning of the last school year what it was about. She claims that the authorities did not react even during the court proceedings.

She emphasized that she had sent the authorities a warning before the lawsuit and a warning before filing the criminal complaint, but that they had not announced anything for a month.

Also, she claims that the cantonal authorities were informed about this problem. She pointed out that she has e-mails in which the members of the parliamentary leadership of CSElvedin Okeric People and Justice (Narod i Pravda – NiP) and Danijela Kristic (NiP) were informed about this problem. She stated that the representative Vildana Beslija (Our party – Nasa stranka: NS) had invited this mother for an interview. This gave her hope that the problem would be solved, but it was not, Klix.ba reports.
