A storm accompanied by rain and wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour hit the Una-Sana Canton in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the night, the storm caused interruptions in the supply of electricity and caused great damage. Members of the fire department were busy, and they were called to several interventions to remove fallen trees, and the strong wind ripped the roofs off residential buildings.

“Civil protection services have been on the ground since the early hours of the morning. We visited numerous locations where damage was caused, for example, a tree fell on the building of the Cultural Center in Bihać, damage to cars was also recorded. However, the most important thing is that there were no victims. We are repairing damage and we will certainly have a more detailed report in the coming hours,” said Edin Kulenović, head of the Civil Protection Service in Bihać.

Great damage was also caused to the “Foča” facility within the “Dr. Irfan Ljubijankić” Cantonal Hospital in Bihać, as well as to the “Kamenica” Regional School in the local community of Izačić.

“According to what I can see in the yard of the school, due to the big storm, almost 80 percent of the roof was lifted by the wind, and in addition, the road leading to the entrance was barricaded. We had no choice but to postpone classes today. I hope for a quick reaction and intervention by the authorities so that we can start the teaching process smoothly after the autumn vacation”, said the school’s director, Amir Smajić.

In addition to USK, the storm also caused problems in Srebrenica, Prijedor, and Banja Luka. Due to strong stormy winds, a window in the gymnasium collapsed at SŠC Bratunac. A student was injured and was hospitalized in Zvornik, the latest information is that she is out of danger. There is a lot of damage in Bratunac, as well as in Srebrenica where, among other things, a tree was uprooted in the yard of the old kindergarten, reports Friends of Srebrenica.

Compared to August 2021, when a strong storm in Bihać took one life, according to the information collected so far, fortunately, this time there were no casualties or injuries.

The Federal Hydrometeorological Institute (FHMZ) issued an orange weather alert for Friday as a warning of storm-force winds and rain that are expected for the rest of the day. Drivers are advised to drive more carefully, adapted to the current conditions and condition of the roads, and landslides are also frequent on numerous sections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Anadolu reports.
