At least six people have died, including three firefighters, after a 60-ton liquefied natural gas tanker exploded in Mongolia’s capital Ulaanbaatar, emergency officials said. The explosion and fire near the Dunjingarav market injured at least 11 people, the Mongolian Emergency Management Agency announced in a post on “Facebook”.

More than 600 firefighters and 100 vehicles participated in extinguishing the fire. “Unfortunately, three officers of the 63rd fire-rescue unit of the National Fire Service died in the accident, while they were performing their duty,” the Administration’s announcement states.

According to local media, the fire quickly engulfed several nearby buildings, including a residential building.

Dozens of cars were practically burned.
