Ali Memil, a Turkish man from Kayseri, draws public attention with his 1970s style of dress, admitting that his unique image stems from an attempt to heal his heartbreak from unrequited love through nostalgia.
Memil works in the furniture industry, and for the past six years, he has been listening only to sad music and wearing nostalgic clothing reminiscent of the fashion from half a century ago due to his unrequited love.
After failing to win over the woman he fell in love with, Memil gave up on the idea of marriage. Since then, he has attracted attention with his hairstyle, mustache, and clothing similar to those worn by famous Turkish musicians Ferdi Tayfur and Orhan Gencebay.
In an interview, Memil stated that he loves nostalgia and lives by the customs characteristic of the past in every respect.
He believes that pure love was more common in the past.
“My story is actually based on a love story. There was a woman who entered my life and whom I loved very much. I was ready to give her everything, but it wasn’t enough,” Memil said.
Memil has his pants, shirts, and shoes made by a tailor, and people often stop him on the street to ask for a photo.
“People really like it. I haven’t received a single negative comment. They tell me I look like Orhan Gencebay or Ferdi Tayfur. It makes me happy to hear nice things, but this kind of style is beautiful if you do it because you like it, not because someone else does. Actually, my appearance is based on a love story. I loved much in the past and had to find a way to get through it unscathed. I like the reflection in the mirror, I’m not imitating anyone, I’m building my own image,” Memil concluded, AA writes.
