Abdulah Sidran Left an Indelible Mark on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Cultural Heritage

Today marks the first anniversary of the death of the legendary BiH poet and screenwriter Abdulah Sidran, who left an indelible and significant mark on the cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina with his works.

One of the largest BiH writer and film author of Bosnia and Herzegovina died on March 23, 2024 at the age of 80, after a long and serious illness. Sidran was known for his literary work, but also for his screenwriting work, and his departure left a big mark on the cultural scene of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He attended elementary school and high school in Sarajevo. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy. Until April 1992, he was employed at RTV Sarajevo as a leading dramaturg.

He started writing in the 1960s. He belonged to the generation of young writers often referred to as the “68”. Selections from his poetry have been translated into German, French, Italian and other languages.

Sidran is the screenwriter of the films “Do you remember Dolly Bell?”, “Father on a business trip” by Emir Kusturica, “Kuduz” by Ademir Kenović.

As a film author, he is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. He was a member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
