Academic Misconduct is not a Criminal Offense in BiH

On the most visited online selling site in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), where everything from modern devices to domestic animals is sold, there are several advertisements for doing seminar papers, graduation, diploma, research, or master’s theses.

The providers of these services do not want to speak publicly, while university professors believe that this is an unacceptable practice. Academic misconduct, however, is not a criminal offense.

What is offered?

“The theses we create are original and high-quality, we do not take over the works of other authors or offer them to different clients. Therefore, it takes a certain amount of time to create our work, depending on the complexity of the topic and the service we provide. Prices for creating thesis depend on the type of service we provide, as well as the difficulty of the topic we are researching,” one advertisement states.

These services are offered with the understanding that discretion is guaranteed.

“The agreement is based on confidentiality, which is guaranteed to every client. Feedback on the cooperation agreement with clients will not be given and your identity will remain anonymous,” it is explained to potential buyers of these theses.

In one of the advertisements for graduation and seminar theses for medical school, it is stated that their price is 40 BAM (20 euros).

Public office holders as role models

Numerous advertisements for the preparation of theses for students are not a surprise. This is a consequence of the overall events in society in the last few decades, thinks Mirjana Cuskic from the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights.

“Many public office holders bought their diplomas, so I am not surprised that young people, instead of thinking critically and acquiring knowledge, do not want to put in any effort, and it is easier for them to buy a diploma and a job,” says Cuskic, Slobodna Evropa reports.
