The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the RS Stevo Mirjanić said that agriculture in Herzegovina, in addition to energy, has to have special treatment and that it is a shame that it is not used to a greater extent.
‘’I hope that we can within the long-term development of agriculture until 2020, which we will bring this year, will fully define a different concept of agricultural development in Herzegovina in relation to Lijevča field, Semberija, Romanija Plateau and other parts in the RS’’, said Minister Mirjanić yesterday in Trebinje after a visit to the vineyard ‘Vukoje’.
He stressed that Trebinje is a very interesting area for the production of grapes and wine that are known all over the world, and noted that the government of the RS and relevant ministries pay great attention to the development of viticulture in this area.
‘’In the last three years in the area of Trebinje around four million BAM were invested from subsidies’’, recalled Mirjanić and added that most was invested in the development of primary production, processing facilities, bee products, medicinal plants, fruit and vegetables.
He noted that the relevant ministry expects the full impact of investment on the field, as well as for the rational use of subsidies in the interest of increasing production and quality.
‘’In the future we will support agricultural production, especially the production of wine and high quality wine that should have an increased presence in various markets in the country and abroad’’, said Mirjanić.
Obren Zoran Vukoje, owner of the winery ‘Vukoje’, expressed his satisfaction with the visit of the Ministry, and said that at the meeting they mostly spoke about the new Law on wines in the RS, which until now has encompassed wine and rakija.
‘’In every field the Law is most important, and so in the production of wine’’, said Vukoje, noting that the Act on wine regulates the entire production process-from the vineyard to the bottle.
The mayor of Trebinje Slavko Vučurević, as well as the representatives of the association of winemakers and vineyards and beekeepers of Eastern Herzegovina attended the meeting.
Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture, which includes the assistants in the Department of Agriculture and Water Management Zoran Kovačević and Mihajlo Stevanović will meet tomorrow with representatives of the Association of Beekeepers, producers of medicinal plants and water users for irrigation.
