Airport Tuzla in May recorded 51.12 % more Passengers

Tuzla_International_AirportAfter the data on the number of passengers was published for the first 4 months, it was announced that Tuzla Airport is going towards 300,000 passengers annually. The May data not only confirm but provide the basis for the question of how much the limit of 300,000 passengers will be exceeded.

In May, a total of 27,326 passengers used the services of the Airport Tuzla, which is by 51.12 % more than in the same month last year. Wizz Air performed 168 flights and transported 27,318 passengers. The increase in the number of passenger is the result of bigger number of flights by 44.8% or better occupancy of airplanes. Wizz Air had 162.6 passengers per flight in May, which is 7 passengers more than in May last year (155.87). In percentages, the factor of occupancy of planes in May was by 90.3 % higher than in May 2015.

Although the bad weather continued in the beginning of this year, the overall results are excellent. In the first five months, Wizz Air performed 751 flights and transported 114,659 passengers. Occupancy of planes was 84.82 % and it can be expected, considering that the summer months are coming, the overall occupancy rate will exceed 85 % which is indicated in the month of May, in which was recorded occupancy of 90.3 %.

Airport cannot afford the luxury of the reduction of interest of their potential passengers for using its services, it cannot rely only on passengers who have to travel, but those that come from Krajina, Herzegovina, Slavonia and Serbia are equally important.

Terminal building is like it is, without major investments it cannot be done much to improve the comfort but something can be improved even without major investments. For example, it must not be allowed for passengers to wait for a plane for hours in inadequate room after performing customs controls. It does not have sense to keep up with the scheduling and invite passengers to pass through customs control if it is known that the plane will be delayed. It’s easier to wait in a large room with the possibility to drink coffee, juice, eat something, take a walk out of the building etc.

If last year through the airport passed 250,000 passengers, at least the same number, if not twice as much, passed those who were greeting them or waiting for them. Half a million people deserves care and attention. If the airport terminal is so small, we could offer them some content outside the building…

People love to watch planes while waiting for their people to get on or off the plane, we need to provide this opportunity to them. It would be ideal if the lookout could be constructed on the roof of the main building or technical building next to the main building, but it would not be expensive even to make a temporary lookout on concrete or wooden poles near the fence where visitors could have a look at the platform and part of the runway. It makes sense to charge the admission to the lookout because if every tenth visitor decides to climb to the lookout point, it would bring additional 50,000 BAM per year. Earnings could also be achieved with machines with hot drinks, juices, cold water, and sandwiches. Good for people, extra income for the airport, and the main building would be relieved.
