EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos welcomed Albania’s progress in EU membership talks.
Kosovo met with Albanian leaders in Tirana and assured them of the bloc’s continued support, saying the country is a “champion of regional cooperation.”
“The EU is determined, it’s happening and it’s real,” Kosova said.
The Albanian parliament is expected to ratify two documents that will free up more than 920 million euros for the country under the EU’s economic growth plan, the AP reported.
“These funds will allow Albania to be ready to join the EU,” Kosova said, stressing that Tirana is a “champion of regional cooperation” and that this is “very important.”
The EU decided in 2020 to start full membership negotiations with Albania, and talks began in October last year on how the country is aligning with the EU’s position on issues such as the rule of law, the functioning of democratic institutions and the fight against corruption.
