British Ambassador to BiH Edward Ferguson responded to the letter he received from the President of the BiH entity Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik.
Ferguson believes that the rationale that followed the decision by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska indicates very clearly that the proposed referendum on the Day of Republika Srpska represents a challenge for the legal authority of the decisions by the Constitutional Court of BiH, stated the British Embassy in BiH.
Ambassador stated this in a response to the open letter addressed to him by Dodik, with the note that he always accepted that Republika Srpska has the legal right to hold referendums on issues that are within its jurisdictions as an entity and in accordance with the Constitution of BiH. According to the Dayton Peace Agreement, decisions by the Constitutional Court of BiH are final and binding, Ferguson also stated.
“That is the foundation on which the United Kingdom expressed concern regarding the referendum, together with High Representative and other international partners. Political rhetoric that can be hear from all sides these days does not contribute to anything. We hope that these concerns will be eliminated with a peaceful and constructive dialog,” stated the British Ambassador to BiH Edward Ferguson.
