moore johnatanThe new Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Jonathan Moore, assumed his duties in Sarajevo on 3 September 2014.

“I am deeply honored to serve as Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. I have worked in the Mission before, during the 1996 elections. BiH has made significant progress since, but many challenges remain, and the OSCE can assist through its work on stability, reconciliation and institutional development,” Moore said.

“The upcoming elections in October will be very important, and I look forward to seeing many candidates and voters in the days ahead. The OSCE Mission, with offices throughout the country, will continue to work with local partners to develop systems of education, governance and justice that are able to uphold human rights and the rule of law. I look forward to working with the Swiss OSCE Chairmanship, and the OSCE will also place emphasis on regional co-operation, in light of next year’s Serbian Chairmanship.”

Moore, a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service, has extensive experience in the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe. He served in Bosnia and Herzegovina as an advisor to the OSCE Head of Mission in 1996, and as U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission from 2009 to 2012. Prior to his assignment as Head of OSCE Mission to BiH, Moore was Director of the Office of South Central European Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. He also served at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade.
