The US Ambassador Patrick S. Moon, together with his colleagues, visited the Ombudsman Institutions for Human Rights BiH yesterday.

The reason for the visit was the successful realization of the project “Strengthen Capacity of Ombudsman Institutions through the Education of Young Human Rights Lawyers”, which the Institution implemented from 2011-2012 with the support of the US Embassy.

Young lawyers who have gained their knowledge and experience through this project with the Embassy shared their impressions of the work of the Ombudsman Institution and the perspectives of young people in BiH.

“Human Rights are the top priority of the US. They are closely related to the strengthening of democracy in a society and to crate a positive business environment. The role of young people in these processes is especially important, and it is therefore necessary to encourage and strengthen their leadership skills’’, said Ambassador Moon.

The Ambassador used the opportunity to meet with BiH Ombudsmen, who spoke to him about the main observations regarding human rights, and which will be the subject of the 2012 Annual Report.

Ambassador Moon gave his full support to the work of the Institution, while being aware of the challenges that the Institution faces. At the same time, he stressed that citizens have confidence in the Ombudsman Institution, as evidenced by the increased attention afforded to this institution.

The Ombudsman Institution and the US Embassy will continue to strengthen their partner relations in the future, especially when it comes to activities that are a joint priority and which enhance the level of protection of human rights and affirmation of democratic principles in BiH.
