On July 7, 2025, Mr. AIKI Toshihiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina, participated in the official handover ceremony of 34 books donated to the Faculty of Law at the University of East Sarajevo. The event took place at the Faculty Library in Pale, as part of the “Read Japan” Project supported by The Nippon Foundation.

The ceremony was attended by key representatives of the Faculty, including Prof. Dr. Goran Marković, Dean of the Faculty, Assist. Prof. Sanja Golijanin, Vice-Dean for Education, and Assist. Prof. Đorđe Marilović, the project coordinator.

Launched in 2008, the “Read Japan” Project aims to promote a deeper understanding of Japan by distributing high-quality English-language books on various aspects of Japanese society, politics, culture, literature, and more. To date, more than 1,400 institutions around the world have received donations through the initiative. In Bosnia and Herzegovina alone, 31 institutions have benefited from this valuable program since 2011.

This marks the second consecutive year the Faculty of Law in East Sarajevo has received the donation, bringing the total number of books donated to 63. Ambassador AIKI congratulated the Faculty for being selected two years in a row and expressed his hope that the books would enhance the academic experience of both students and professors while deepening their knowledge and understanding of Japan. He also emphasized the potential for this initiative to foster future academic exchange between Japan and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
