Commemorating and supporting projects that promote the continuity of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)‘s statehood, it seems, has never been more important. In its history, BiH has often been exposed to separatist attacks that challenge its statehood and independence. Therefore, every year it is more important to remind about the importance of independence and freedom. Even on the occasion of Independence Day, such a message was sent from Dzebari, close to Zivinice.
In Dzebari, there is a museum where, on the occasion of Independence Day, an exhibition on nurturing and promoting the cultural heritage of BiH was set up. The exhibition shows the specifics of medieval Bosnia, the period of the Ottomans, the way in which Bosnia retained its uniqueness during that time. But also the time of Austro-Hungarian rule as well as the time when it was part of Yugoslavia. A special aspect relates to the period of aggression against BiH.
“The exhibition talks about the thousand-year tradition of our beautiful BiH – from the first mentions in the works of Byzantine travel writers until Dayton in 1995,” emphasizes Nermin Ibric, curator – historian at the Museum of Eastern Bosnia Tuzla.
“We want to draw the attention of future generations in a positive way that in the coming period we know how to valorize the contribution of the Army of BiH, the contribution of the very importance of the referendum and the declaration of independence of the state of BiH,” said Began Muhic, mayor of Zivinice (SDA).
Despite a thousand-year history, our country is still fighting with those who deny its existence, independence and statehood, and thus the most important historical dates, continuously working on divisive policies.
“There were always those in Bosnia who worked against Bosnia and were somewhat outlaws, but they could never interfere so much with BiH moving forward. BiH – as you can see – is moving forward. It has its own path to the integration of the European Union (EU) and the NATO alliance and is at the door of the EU“, emphasized Mirko Pejanovic, former member of the Presidency of the Republic of BiH.
Precisely on the basis of its autonomy and independence, BiHhas been a long-standing contender for membership in the EU, a community where sustainability and recognized borders are one of the key conditions for joining.
