The year of global marking of 100 years since the birth of the ”new prophet” of music started on 5 September 2012. John Cage, whose work in philosophical and practical forms opened new horizons in understanding the universe of music and art, as a space that expands indefinitely.
Academy of Music Sarajevo will also mark this global event.
Works of John Milton Cage is based on the fact that music is apparently just a space for leisure and fun, and that there is some greater truth about that though nearly every man irresistibly is drawn to the music and instinctively committed to it.
Following the tradition of Zen Buddhism, John Cage invites the listeners, through his music, he calls it ”organised sound”, not to focus on the course of the musical work as the content that has development, but Cage invites us to stop listening to expectations that are imposed on us by science and culture, and to surrender oneself to the moment in which one exists, in which the sound calls us to the satisfaction of the state of knowledge about the existence, in which we recognize ourselves and each other, we hear and see themselves and each other.
Therefore, the invocation of consciousness about the world, ourselves, each other, the Cage himself, the leitmotif of “Happy New Years” titled on Cage’s text where he invites us to be constantly looking forward to each new unplanned experiences as a new revelation.
Days of John Cage will focus on the presentation of a series of documentary films and video performance of his works, screenings of his film and playing the recordings of his voice and electroacoustic works, with an exhibition of his writings, scores and documents.
