The film ‘Blue Jasmine’ by well-known director and screenwriter Woody Allen was shown last night at summer cinema !hej at the 19th Sarajevo Film Festival.
Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Louis C.K., Sally Hawkins and Bobby Cannavale star in the film.
After everything in her lie begins to crumble, including her marriage with rich businessman Hal (Alec Baldwin), the elegant socialite from New York Jasmine (Cate Blanchett), moves into a modest apartment with her sister Ginger (Sally Hawkins) in San Francisco in order to try to stand on her own two feet.
However, this isn’t so simple because Jasmine bears the burden of a marriage in which she was cheated on, and her husband earned his entire fortune through embezzlements, due to which he ends up in jail and committed suicide.
Jasmine also experienced a nervous breakdown. However, she begins to work in a dental office.
Her life begins to improve when she meets the rich Dwight Westlake, who wishes to become a congressman in California. He plans to marry her, until he finds out that she lied to him about her life.
Woody Allen is one of the most well-known and respected filmmakers. He has behind him a rich career as a screenwriter, director, actor and producer for more than 30 years.
‘Blue Jasmine’ is another in a series of successful films by this 77-year-old director.
With the film ‘Midnight in Paris’ in 2011, Allen was nominated for the seventh time for an Oscar for best director, and the fourteenth (and record) time he was nominated for the same film and an Oscar for best original screenplay, which he won.
