Analysis: In BiH and the EU, support for U.S. Policy mostly fell

One of the world’s largest public opinion polling agencies, Gallup, has published its annual report on support for the leadership of the world’s largest powers. The United States (U.S.) leadership is supported by 39 percent of Europeans, while in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) support for the U.S. is even lower.

In BiH, support for the U.S. leadership fell by as much as nine percent compared to 2021 and amounts to 31 percent, while 52 percent of citizens are dissatisfied with their leadership.

The only country in the region that has a significant increase in trust in U.S. politics during 2022 is Croatia. Compared to 2021, support increased by nine percent and amounts to 33 percent.

European countries trust Germany the most

After Europe was left disappointed by U.S. leadership in 2017 with the average approval rating falling 19 points between Barack Obama’s final year and Trump’s first year, in 2021 U.S. leadership approval ratings rebounded to levels not seen since the Obama administration.

Moreover, after the Russian invasion, which is probably one of the biggest foreign policy challenges the U.S. has faced, the approval of the U.S. leadership and their policies has fallen to 39 percent in Europe.

However, behind this still-solid figure, there is data that indicate a decline in support in important parts of Europe.

In 12 of the 37 European countries surveyed in 2021 and 2022, support for U.S. policies decreased by 10 percent or more.

Support for German leadership in Europe is more significant than support for the U.S. and amounts to 56 percent, for China it is 16 percent, and for Russia only seven percent, Klix.ba reports.
