A graveyard of ancient elephants 20 million years old was found near Tomislavgrad.
As Al Jazeera Balkans reported, palaeontologists from Croatia, Austria and BiH started the research near Tomislavgrad where the fossils of the ancient elephant Gomphotherium were found.
Fossils of this species were not never before discovered in BiH, and without a doubt, those ancient elephants are ancestors of modern elephants.
The excavation site was discovered in 2011, and after the official confirmation, Tomislavgrad hopes that their municipality will be found on the list of World archaeological destinations
This discovery is important for the scientific reconstruction of life in this part of Europe.
