Anonymous Persons broke into the Cathedral of the Ascension in Stolac

An anonymous perpetrator desecrated the Cathedral of the Ascension in Stolac, where he tried to break down the door, said priest Dejan Grcic, adding that this is an bad message for Serbs in this city that their property is not safe.

Priest Grčić was the first to find this scene and informed the police about everything, who conducted an investigation.

“The police carried out an investigation. Around the church, bricks are broken from blows and there are many stones. An attempt was made to break open the door with some object, perhaps a crowbar. This is an attempt at devastation and an ugly message for the Serbs in Stolac. The message is that their property is not safe”, claims Grcic.

Councilor in the Stolac Municipal Council Nedeljko Đogo says that the few Serbs in Stolac are very shaken by this event.

“The door is damaged, there are many stones around. Someone obviously wanted to break into the church and devastate the interior. We see no other reason, because there is nothing to steal in the church,” said Đogo.

He adds that a strong front door prevented more damage.

Đogo is convinced that after the devastation and attack on the Cathedral in Mostar, someone wanted to do the same in Stolac.

“Serbs in Stolac have never worked to destabilize relations in Stolac with their behavior, religious and political activities. These are terrible messages”, says Đogo.

The holy bishop’s liturgy in the Cathedral in Stolac was served this morning by His Eminence Bishop Dimitrije of Zahum-Herzegovina and Primorsko, and the liturgy was attended by a large number of believers from this region.
