On October 30, the Appellate Division of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a second-instance verdict in the Selmo Cikotić case, which rejected the appeal of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the appeal of the defendant’s defense attorney as unfounded, and confirmed the first-instance verdict of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina of December 5, 2023.

By the first-instance verdict, the defendant Selmo Cikotić was found guilty of committing, as an official in the executive authorities of the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in his capacity as Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, by abusing his official position and authority, the continued criminal offense of abuse of position or authority under Article 220, paragraph 3, of the Criminal Code of BiH, in conjunction with paragraph 1 of the same article, and all in conjunction with Article 54 of the same Law, and the Court sentenced him to three years in prison.

An appeal against the second-instance verdict is not permitted, the Court of BiH announced.
