In accordance with the Instructions on the deadlines and sequence of election activities for the Local Elections of 2024, which will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024. The deadline for submitting applications for certification of participation in elections for political parties and independent candidates expires today at 4:00 p.m.

In the prevention of election irregularities, the cooperation of everyone in discovering and sanctioning the perpetrators is crucial, because this is how the best messages are sent to the citizens and trust in the institutions is restored.

ZEKERIJA MUJKANOVIĆ, chief prosecutor of Brčko District of BiH

Synchronized and good activity of all those who can contribute to the prosecution of this type of criminal offense is required, which means that everyone in the chain of detection, prosecution and adjudication must do it, and this means that the police agency, the prosecution and finally the courts should play their role in the best way. They really need to comply with the instruction of the High Court Prosecutor’s Council to process these criminal acts in the fastest possible way.

The strategy “How to cheat in the elections on election day” will fall into the water after the end of the voting because some of the new technologies will make it impossible.

VEHID ŠEHIĆ, president of the strategic board of the Coalition “Under the Scrutiny”

“What I must emphasize is that all our recommendations, there are 35 of them, do not only concern improvements that should restore confidence in the electoral process. They were delivered to all political parties, but they turned a deaf ear because many things that have been introduced now, which will be introduced in 2026 .years, I mean new technologies, they do not suit many political parties.

LEILA BIČAKČIĆ, director of CIN

With the latest amendments to the law and the pilot that we will now see in the elections in October, and of course significant that this will be transferred to the entire election process in the next round, that the space for malfeasance will be significantly reduced, by the electronic monitoring and registration itself, and by the counting itself, significantly the space for fraud is reduced.

From the coalition of non-governmental organizations, which monitor the electoral process, they are aware that preparations for electoral fraud begin long before the election day, but they expect that the electronic improvement of the electoral process will bring some changes.

VEHID ŠEHIĆ, president of the strategic board of the Coalition “Under the Scrutiny”

“The biggest frauds are in smaller towns, in big towns, here is Tuzla, Zenica, Sarajevo, you have a lot of observers, there are media, party and non-party, virtually all polling stations are covered. In smaller towns there are none, there you can do whatever you want and it is logical for me that in smaller places, that’s why there are no such large works, to do it through this pilot project, to see how it works.”

One of the highlights of the panel discussion was the importance of a proactive approach by prosecutor’s offices and police agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina in protecting the electoral process and processing electoral irregularities, BHRT writes.
