Msgr. Aldo Cavalli was born in Lecco, Italy, on October 18th, 1946. On March 18th, 1971, he became a priest in Bergamo.
After studying at the Pontifical Church Academy, he held the diplomatic service of the Holy See from 1979. On July 2nd, 1996, Pope John Paul II appointed Vibo Valentia the titular archbishop of the diocese. He became a bishop on August 26th, 1997 in the cathedral in Bergamo.
He was appointed Apostolic Delegate in Angola and Apostolic Nuncio in Sao Tome and Principe. After the delegation in Angola was elevated to the rank of the apostolic nunciature, Msgr. Cavalli served as apostolic nuncio in that country. On October 29th, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to Colombia, and on February 16th, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to Malta and later Apostolic Nuncio to Libya. On March 21st, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to the Netherlands.
