The helicopter of the 2nd Helicopter Squadron of the Air Force and Air Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to provide support to civilian structures in extinguishing fires in the area of the Konjic municipality, the Public Relations Office of the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
The helicopter crews have been engaged since the afternoon of August 6, and operations continued throughout Friday.
The Ministry of Defense states that this is one of the most complex tasks performed by members of the Air Force and Air Defense Brigade due to the inaccessible terrain and difficult working conditions. Additional difficulties are created by thick smoke above the fire, which makes extinguishing from the air difficult.
Almost four hours of flight have been achieved so far, during which 12 buckets of water, or about six tons, have been dropped onto the fire. Approximately 1,000 liters of jet fuel were used to carry out the task.
The fire is being extinguished in coordination with a helicopter from the Ministry of Interior of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, and the Ministry of Defense emphasizes that the engagement of the Armed Forces of BiH will continue in the coming period, in accordance with the requests of the civilian authorities.
The statement states that members of the 2nd Helicopter Squadron consistently apply the prescribed standards and procedures during the mission, confirming their readiness to provide assistance to civilian structures in emergency situations.
