The Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina will host an observation team from the armed forces of Turkey, Croatia and Hungary, which will conduct an observation flight over Bosnia and Herzegovina from July 17 to 21.
In the announcement of the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was specified that this activity represents the implementation of the obligations of the international agreement “Open Skies”, to which Bosnia and Herzegovina is a signatory, and informs the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina that this is an agreed and planned aerial photography event.
The overflight will be carried out by an unarmed aircraft of the Turkish Air Force along the agreed route, with the participation of the supporting team of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The “Open Skies” contract is a security arrangement that allows all members to carry out announced, unarmed reconnaissance flights over the entire territory of a given member in order to transfer data on military forces and activities.
The purpose of the contract is to build and develop trust among the members. Bosnia and Herzegovina, as one of the signatory members, has been actively participating in the activities provided for in the agreement since 2003.
This activity is carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Sarajevo Airport.
