The International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant could result in global legal pressure on Tel Aviv and an arms embargo on Israel by Western countries.
Military analyst, Amos Harel, believes that the ICC’s arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Galant, issued over war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza, could trigger investigations against Israeli soldiers and commanders in numerous countries worldwide.
He also suggests that the ICC’s decision may lead Western nations to reassess their positions on Israel.
“The ICC’s decision could even pave the way for Western countries, which have so far responded with more restrained measures against Israel, to impose a new arms embargo on Israel,” Harel stated.
He noted that such developments could result in numerous criminal charges and investigations against the Israeli military.
“This decision could accelerate criminal complaints and investigations against Israeli soldiers and commanders in many states,” Harel added.
The ICC announced on Thursday that it had issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant over alleged war crimes committed in the Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip.
The arrest warrants come more than a year after Israel launched a deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip, which, since October 7th of last year, has resulted in the deaths of around 44.000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left more than 104.000 people injured.
