The US says it is ‘deeply concerned about Reports of Civilian Casualties in Gaza’

The United States of America (USA) said it was “deeply concerned about reports of civilian casualties in Gaza” after an Israeli airstrike hit a school yesterday.

“We know that Hamas has used schools as sites of assembly and action, but we have also repeatedly and consistently said that Israel must take measures to minimize civilian harm,” National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett said.

Stating that Palestinian civilians “continue to be killed and wounded,” the council added: “This underscores the urgency of a ceasefire and hostage agreement, which we continue to work tirelessly to achieve.”

Since the beginning of August, Israel has carried out airstrikes on 13 shelter centers in Gaza, where displaced Palestinians have sought refuge, said Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the Civil Protection in the besieged Palestinian enclave, on Saturday.

The latest attack occurred early Saturday when the Israeli military bombed the Al-Taba’een school in the Al-Daraj district of eastern Gaza, killing at least 100 Palestinians.

Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have killed nearly 39,800 people since last October following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.

Israel has been accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, whose latest ruling ordered it to immediately end its military operation in the southern city of Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians sought refuge from the war before it was attacked on May 6.
