In a major fire that broke out on the seventh floor of the Retirement Home in Tuzla at around 8:45 p.m. last night, 11 residents of the facility lost their lives, while at least 30 rooms were damaged, BHRT was informed.
According to initial information, among the injured were police officers, firefighters, medical workers and employees of the Home, who participated in the evacuation and assistance to the users. All of them received medical care at the University Clinical Center Tuzla.
The bodies of the deceased will be transferred to the Tuzla Commemorative Center for identification and autopsy, and an on-site investigation will be conducted when safety conditions are met. The investigation into the causes of the fire is ongoing.
Firefighters, with the help of colleagues from Srebrenik and volunteer fire departments from Tuzla and Gornja Tuzla, managed to localize the fire after several hours of intervention. Police officers, Tuzla Ambulance Service teams, and medical staff from health centers in Lukavac, Srebrenik, and Kalesija also participated in the operation.
Tuzla Mayor Zijad Lugavić has called an extraordinary meeting for this morning at 8:00 a.m., at which the relevant services will present new information about the circumstances of the fire, the number of victims, and the condition of the injured.
