The EU Strategy Forum for the Danube Region is Meeting in Sarajevo

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Directorate for European Integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina are organizing the 14th EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) Forum and the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Danube Region today and tomorrow in Sarajevo, as the final event of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s one-year presidency of this forum.

Bosnia and Herzegovina took over the presidency from the Republic of Austria in 2024, under the motto “Flowing together, growing together”, with a focus on the enlargement of the European Union, youth and regional connectivity. Our presidency formally ends this year when the Republic of Bulgaria takes over the presidency, the organizers announced.

The European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) is the second macro-regional strategy of the EU, adopted by the European Commission in 2010 and endorsed by the European Council in 2011. The strategy brings together 14 countries along the Danube and covers an area that is home to 112 million people, or one fifth of the Union’s population. Participating countries are: Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Romania as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine.

The strategy is focused on four activities: connecting regions, preserving the environment, building prosperity, and strengthening the region; and within each of them priority areas are determined by specific measures of cooperation.
