Media freedomThe statistical agency “Statista” prepared a map of countries for newspaper The Independent, which is related to the freedom of the press. Thus, the best working conditions and media freedom are in the Scandinavian countries, Germany, Costa Rica and New Zealand, the most difficult situation is in Africa and Asia, and problems countries are noticeable in the Western Balkan.

The map that shows the media freedom in the world was prepared according to official data from 180 countries . The worst situation is in North Korea, Eritrea and Turkmenistan. Thus, the average media freedom was decreased by 4 % in comparison to the last year.

The largest freedom of media exist in Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark, New Zealand and some other countries.

The situation in the United States, Australia and South Africa is satisfactory.

The most difficult situation is in the countries of Africa and Asia, where the government controls the media, puts pressure on the media, controls media reports etc. In these countries, journalists are often the target of assassinations.

Poland experienced a large drop compared to the last year and fell by 29 positions. The situation in China, when it comes to journalism, is very serious, given the censorship and control of the press by president Xi Jinping, since he came to power in 2012.

BiH was ranked in the category of countries with some noticeable problems, and it occupies the 86th position. It was emphasized that BiH has good laws on the freedom of media, but their implementation is slow. Compared to the last year, BiH dropped by two positions. Most of the countries of Western Balkans belong to this group, as well as Italy and most of countries of South America. Serbia is on the 59th place, Croatia on the 63rd place and the highest-ranked country in the region is Slovenia, which occupies the 40th place.
