A German cargo ship was attacked on Friday near the coast of Yemen in the Red Sea.
Germany’s Hapag Lloyd, which operates the Liberian-flagged Al Jasrah, said it would “take additional measures to ensure the safety of our crew.”
British maritime security company Ambrey said the ship sustained physical damage from the missile, which caused a “fire on board,” Reuters reported.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the incident.
Yemen’s pro-Iranian Houthis have been attacking ships in the Red Sea shipping lanes and firing drones and missiles at Israel since the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza began more than two months ago, in a campaign they say is aimed at supporting the Palestinians.
