Damir Imamović is the author of the first exhibition titled “Sevdah, umjetnost slobode” (“Sevdah, the Art of Freedom”), which was opened last night at the Art Gallery of B&H.
On that occasion, Imamović highlighted that this multimedia exhibition includes recordings, photographs, newspaper articles, posters and whole material, testifying of sevdah being a very exciting genre throughout his history.
“This exhibition is my message that sevdah has a lot of things in its history that people do not know about, because they have forgotten or perhaps we haven’t dealt with it enough. I wish for this exhibition to help us jointly imagine a smarter approach to the cultural history of this region,” Imamović said.
Visitors of the exhibition, Imamović added, can enjoy listening to the recordings presented for the first time, which were recorded in Sarajevo in 1907 and 1908 and discovered by the Finnish musicologist Risto Pekka Pennanen.
For the purposes of the exhibition, Imamović conducted video interviews with 18 prominent sevdah experts.
