The award ceremony for the best news story about corruption in BiH will be held on Thursday, 31st January in the MediaCenter in Sarajevo.

This event is the final activity of the project “Awake Eye of Responsible Journalism: Anticorruption and Media in BiH”, which is financed by the European Union and realized by the Thomson Reuters Foundation in partnership with Mediacenter Foundation.

The goal of this two-year project is the strengthening of the capacity of BiH journalists for reporting on corruption by providing training in this field. During the first year of the project, basic and initial research on the topic “BiH Media and Reporting on Corruption” was conducted, as well as organized training for six prominent BiH Journalists. During the second year of the project, training for 40 BiH Journalists was conducted by professional trainers from Reuters, as well as BiH journalists who attended the training last year.

The end result of the project was a competition for BiH journalists for reporting on the theme corruption in BiH. The two best stories in this category were written by Vladimir Bekić for RTRS and Mirjana Popović from CIN. They will be given 1,500 euros, and their awarded stories will be published on the websites of MediaCenter and the Thomas Reuters Foundation.

At this ceremony, Boro Kontić, the Director of MediaCenter and Andy McGuffie, the Head of Communications of the EU Delegation to BiH/EUSR will address the participants. After this there will be brief presentations of projects and competitions that will be given by Maja Hadžiosmanović, manager of MediaCenter operations and Rubin Čengić, a BiH journalist and member of the jury for the awards.

The ceremony will end with the award for the best news story on corruption in BiH, announced the EU Delegation in BiH.
