With the awarding of April 6 recognitions and awards, along with a rich cultural and artistic program, a ceremonial session was held today in the Town Hall on the occasion of April 6 – Sarajevo City Day.
The session was opened by the chairman of the City Council of the City of Sarajevo, Jasmin Ademović, and then the mayor Benjamina Karić spoke, who emphasized in her address that every year Sarajevo remembers its symbols and values, and the time when the best sons of Sarajevo freed the city from fascism.
“Every year, inspired by the glorious, libertarian past, we award April 6 awards to the most deserving citizens. We are continuing our European journey in whose bosom we once were, so we are really returning to ourselves. Our destiny is to unite, not to divide, freely, with dignity and honor. The six-parcel awards say that our freedom is indestructible. April in Sarajevo is our metaphor of unity and multiculturalism,” said Karić in her speech.
As part of the event, numerous projects were presented that were carried out in the past period in the City of Sarajevo, starting with the renovation of numerous facades, through the construction and renovation of children’s playgrounds, the reconstruction of kindergartens, the construction of bicycle paths, and the arrangement of the riverbed of the Miljacka River, scholarships for young people, commemoration of the 40th anniversaries of the Olympics and numerous other projects.
At the ceremonial session on the occasion of the Day of the City of Sarajevo, April 6th awards were awarded, and the winner of the individual April 6th award was academician and professor Branislava Peruničić, while the collective award went to the Association of Women Suffering and Treated from Breast Cancer “Renesansa”.
The “Sarajevo Snowflake”, an award intended for people under 30 years of age, went to figure skater Ada Korić, karate player Dan Gračić and judoka Farah Ličina.
The “Graham Bamford” award, named after the Briton who set himself on fire in London in 1993 due to the insufficient involvement of the international community in BiH, and which is awarded for exceptional courage, solidarity, humanism and altruism, was awarded to civil activist Senida Karović. Karović is strongly in favor of building a monument to all civilian victims of the past war.
The plaque of the City of Sarajevo, for the polarization of tradition and Sevdalinka, was awarded to businessman and Sevdalinka researcher Muhamed Žero and businessman and humanitarian Hajriz Brčvak, BHRT writes.
