Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Member Denis Bećirović held a press conference after meeting with British Foreign Minister David Lammy.
On this occasion, Bećirović said that Great Britain is a proven friend of BiH.
“This is a country that witnessed the Dayton Peace Agreement. I would like to say that my visit to London and talks with British officials will follow. As one of the three members of the Presidency, I am constantly active on the legal, diplomatic and political fronts in the country and abroad. I would like to reiterate that we must not underestimate the danger that looms over BiH,” he said at the beginning of the press conference.
He stressed that institutions must not relax.
“The competent institutions must not relax because the situation is very serious. It is very important that the ring around fugitives from justice is tightened day by day. It is now clear to everyone that Dodik and his anti-state group have been preparing anti-Dayton acts for years. This series of anti-Dayton acts did not originate in March of this year and were not caused by the actions of the BiH judiciary or the High Representative. I have factually informed the most important European and world centers of power about these dangers and it turned out that what I told them was correct,” he believes.
He also emphasized what he informed the British minister about.
“Today I informed the minister about the security situation in BiH. These are the most serious attacks on the constitutional order of BiH and on peace since the signing of Dayton. The coup d’état in BiH is still ongoing and this has been confirmed by numerous important centers of power. Dodik attacked the constitutional order and the foundations of the Dayton Agreement. This is a criminal act of attacking the constitutional order, and there are elements of armed rebellion. The entity leadership is causing the danger of an armed conflict between the legal institutions of BiH and the entity police,” Bećirović said.
Bećirović also said that the messages Lammy sent were clear.
“What he is doing can lead to a catastrophe and we are obliged to point this out. In such a situation, which is very complex, the very clear messages of the head of British diplomacy are important. He said – the United Kingdom strongly supports the independence, sovereignty and unity of the multiethnic state of BiH. There is full support for the protection of the constitutional order of BiH, the High Representative. It is very important that these messages were also expressed yesterday in the UN Security Council. This is not a problem only of BiH, but a wider problem. Some in the RS entity are trying to copy the Russian model. It is a model in which legal violence dominates international law. Our priority must be to stop the attack on the constitutional order of BiH and eliminate the threat to peace and the state,” he said.
Finally, Bećirović said that he had proposed several proposals at the meeting.
“I also said that the attacks on key institutions that are supposed to defend the Dayton Agreement and the Constitution of BiH are not accidental. These are the High Representative and the Constitutional Court. I also want to say that I had a number of concrete proposals in the coming period and I hope that some of them will be implemented. There are already sanctions. In those sanctions from 2022, it is very clear that those who destroy BiH, peace, constitutional order, are enemies of peace. Everything contained in the sanctions and the explanation of the United Kingdom has proven to be correct,” concluded Bećirović, Klix.ba writes.
