Becirovic-Baerbock: Germany is firmly with BiH

The Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, spoke in Berlin with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, about the relations between the two countries, and about the current security and political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

“Bećirović informed Minister Bearbock in detail about the anti-Dayton and anti-constitutional activities of the leader of the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska, and pointed out the importance of strong cooperation between the international community and domestic authorities in stopping separatist politics,” the BiH Presidency announced.

He particularly pointed out, as stated in the announcement, the danger of unauthorized interference by Serbia in the internal affairs of the sovereign state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The holding of the All-Serbian Assembly of Serbia and the BiH entity RS is the most serious attack on the Dayton Peace Agreement since 1995 until today. The holding of this assembly is an attack on international law and the fundamental values on which the European Union rests,” the statement added.

Bećirović thanked for the strong support that Germany provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He pointed out that Germany is one of the main proponents of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path, which it has proven many times, among other things, when making the decision to open negotiations on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s membership in the EU.

Minister Baerbock confirmed Germany’s unquestionable support for Bosnia and Herzegovina on the way to full membership in the EU and NATO.

“Threats to the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina are completely unacceptable for Germany and the West,” the announcement states.

Also, Minister Berbock said “that the gathering in Belgrade on June 8 is worrying and that such activity does not have the support of Germany and the West”.

Bećirović emphasized that Germany, as the largest economic power of the EU, is also the most important foreign trade partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Also, the importance of the diaspora as an indispensable factor in strengthening friendly ties and cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany was highlighted.
