Member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, spoke out today regarding certain interpretations that problematize NATO’s path to BiH, saying that the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina has clearly decided for Euro-Atlantic integration and that granting of candidate status for membership in the European Union is just another confirmation of that course.
Bećirović, pointing to the facts, notes that the reforms implemented on the European path are complementary to the NATO reforms, which are foreseen by the Bosnia and Herzegovina Reform Program as part of the implementation of the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP).
“By submitting the second Reform Program and its implementation, we committed ourselves to the progress of our country in several areas, among others, in the political, economic, defense, security, and legal areas, which we realize continuously, cooperating with the political and military bodies of NATO,” stated Bećirović.
The Law on the Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina obliges all institutions of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to implement all necessary activities for the admission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to NATO membership, within the framework of constitutional and legal competence.
According to Bećirović, the current geopolitical events, as well as the very complex security environment, are an additional stimulus to the Euro-Atlantic integration processes, and in this context, Bosnia and Herzegovina is designated as an important partner of the Alliance.
“My commitment is clear, I want us to be part of Euro-Atlantic integration, not only as beneficiaries of support but also as a reliable partner. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Euro-Atlantic path has no alternative,” said Denis Bećirović, a member of the BiH Presidency.
