Member of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović met in Washington with US Congressman Wesley Bell, a member of the Armed Forces Committee of the United States House of Representatives (USA) from Missouri.

The discussion focused on the security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans region, with a particular focus on issues in the areas of security, defense and armed forces.

The Member of the Presidency of BiH particularly pointed out the fact that sovereignty belongs exclusively to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, not to the entities. This is also evidenced by the fact that the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina is mentioned nine times in the General Framework Agreement for Peace in BiH, and all nine mentions refer to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and none to the entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is also important that neighboring countries respect the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bećirović stressed that continuous political pressures, secessionist threats and hybrid forms of action are a serious challenge to the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that they require decisive and coordinated joint action. He pointed out the exceptional importance of the political and security support of the United States to Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the context of current regional and global challenges. He underlined that a strong partnership with the United States is one of the key pillars of stability and long-term peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing the special importance of the actions of the US Congress.

The Member of the Presidency of BiH emphasized the role of the United States in supporting reforms in the security and defense sector of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the importance of continuing cooperation within the framework of Euro-Atlantic integration. He emphasized that a stable, functional and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina is an important factor in the overall security of the Euro-Atlantic area.

Congressman Bell said that the United States remains a close ally of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that the Bosnian-Herzegovinian community in Missouri makes an exceptional contribution to the development of that federal state and that it is made up of successful people in the economy, business, sports and culture. He underlined that within the US House of Representatives there is significant bipartisan support for the continuation of the proactive US policy towards the Western Balkans region.

The BiH Presidency Member pointed out the importance of transparent and truthful information for legislators in the US Congress with the aim of better understanding the real situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and preventing erroneous political narratives, the Office of BiH Presidency Member Denis Bećirović announced.
