Becirovic requested an Evaluation of the Constitutionality of the Law on the Flag, Coat of Arms and Anthem of the RS

Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović has filed a request with the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to review the constitutionality of the Law on the Use of the Flag, Coat of Arms and Anthem, which was adopted by the entity parliament of Republika Srpska in November last year.

Amendments to that law stipulate the possibility of displaying flags and coats of arms and performing anthems of foreign states with which the RS has signed an agreement on special and parallel relations.

Bećirović presented constitutional and legal reasons that, as he stated, should serve as the basis for a decision on the unconstitutionality of the Law.

“The adoption of the Law on the Amendments to the Law on the Use of the Flag, Coat of Arms and Anthem is just one of the measures that resulted from the anti-Dayton Declaration of the so-called All-Serbian Parliament and is part of the continuous systemic destructive efforts to fully harmonize the legal regulations of the neighboring Republic of Serbia and the Bosnian entity of RS. Such anti-constitutional and anti-Dayton activity represents a crude attack on the fundamental provisions of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” reads a statement from the office of BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović.

It added that this is “an extremely dangerous attempt to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which seriously threatens peace and stability in the Western Balkans.”
