Becirovic-Selimovic: CBBiH must remain Independent and continue to protect the Stability of the Domestic Currency

The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Denis Becirovic, accompanied by his associates, visited the Central Bank of BiH (CBBiH) and, in talks with the Governor of the CBBiH, Jasmina Selimovic, members of the Governing Board, and the Management of the CBBiH, expressed full support for the work of the CBBiH.

The CBBiH was the first institution visited by Becirovic since assuming the duty of Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, the CBBiH announced.

Governor Selimovic presented the positive business results of the CBBiH, emphasizing that a significant portion of the profit achieved in 2023 is intended for transfer to the Budget of the institutions of BiH. During the discussions, the activities and achievements of the CBBiH were presented, and the continuous work on fulfilling the legal mandate and implementing strategic goals was emphasized.

Particular emphasis was placed on the successful preservation of monetary and financial stability in BiH through an efficient arrangement of the currency board.

“When it comes to my relationship with the CBBiH, I will support its current position of independence from external influences, primarily from entity efforts to borrow money or in any way withdraw funds from this institution. It must remain independent, autonomous, and efficient in carrying out its legal obligations,” said Chairman Becirovic.

It was jointly assessed that the CBBiH must remain independent in its work and continue to protect the stability of the domestic currency in the best interest of all citizens and the economy of our country.

“If there is a need to stimulate the economy and budget positions, then it should be done on the fiscal side through tax system reform in terms of modern legal solutions, more efficient tax collection, and adequate controls, rather than interfering with the healthy part of the system to which the CBBiH belongs,” it was concluded during the meeting.

Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Denis Becirovic wished the Governor, members of the Governing Board, Management, and all employees of the CBBiH success in their future work, emphasizing his belief in continuous cooperation and joint efforts to further strengthen the economic stability and prosperity of BiH.
